The Difference Between Karate and Taekwondo

Karate originated in Okinawa, Japan.  There are many styles of Karate.  Okinawan Goju Ryu is taught at Lincoln Martial Arts Center.  Karate focuses more on hand techniques.  Kicks tend to be lower.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that puts a heavy emphasis on high kicking.

The Difference Between Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Judo and Jiu Jitsu have similar origins.  Both originate from traditional Japanese Ju Jutsu.  Both were modified to allow for safe competition.  Judo emphasizes throwing but includes grappling and submission techniques.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu emphasizes submission grappling.  Rules in competition reflect the differences in emphasis between these two arts.

Self-Defense Classes for Real-World Confidence

Learning practical self-defense is one of the most valuable benefits of martial arts training. Our self-defense classes help students understand how to stay aware of their surroundings and respond effectively if confronted with a threatening situation.

Rather than focusing only on physical techniques, we also emphasize situational awareness and conflict avoidance. Students learn how to remain calm under pressure and make smart decisions when faced with challenging circumstances.

For many adults and parents in Lincoln, these skills provide an important sense of confidence and security.

Flexible Scheduling and Personalized Training

We understand that people throughout Lincoln lead busy lives. Between work, school, and family responsibilities, finding time for martial arts training can sometimes feel difficult. That is why our martial arts classes are offered with flexible scheduling options for both beginners and advanced students.

Our programs include group classes, one-on-one training sessions, and after-school martial arts programs for students. New students are encouraged to visit the dojo for a consultation where they can meet our instructors, observe classes, and discuss their goals.

Once enrolled, students follow a structured training path that includes skill development, belt testing, and ongoing guidance from our instructors.

Community Events and Martial Arts Culture

Training at Lincoln Martial Arts Center goes beyond regular classes. Throughout the year, we host workshops, tournaments, and special events that bring students together and strengthen our martial arts community.

These events allow students to test their skills, learn from visiting instructors, and celebrate their progress alongside fellow practitioners. Many students find that these shared experiences create lasting friendships and a deeper appreciation for martial arts culture.

The sense of community within our dojo is one of the reasons students remain involved in our programs for many years.
